Cascade Ultralite Autoharp

Aside from slightly more sleek lines, What makes the Ultralite different is on the inside.
The frame of this autoharp resembles a truss, and all mass within the frame which is not needed directly for structural integrity has been removed.

The result is less mass, and a slightly larger sound chamber. Less mass means that the exchange of energy produced by the strings is less impeded by the frame. The frame contributes less to the sound than the top and back, but must be very strong to withstand the pull of about 1,500 pounds or more from the tension of the strings.

Of course the other advantage is weight. Our autoharps are already lighter in weight than most, and we shed over a pound from the weight of a standard Cascade.

The differences are subtle, but very noticeable, in weight and in sound.

Each Ultralite comes with all the features of our standard Cascade and a soft case. Plus each has your choice of abalone (shown) or mother of pearl purfling and sound hole rosette. Add a pickup, either our standard Schreiber magnetic pickup or a piezo style, with internal wiring and 1/4" jack, for $180.00.

Cascade Ultralite Pricing

We build autoharps with a number of standard tonewoods such as spruce and cedar tops, figured maple, walnut and cherry backs.  Sides and trim hardwoods may be mixed and matched in a variety of ways.
Other woods such as Hawaiian koa and African padouk etc. are used on request when available, often at an additional price.  We do not use sensitive rain forest woods harvested under poor ecological practices.
